Supreme Celestial Color Mapping 18 × 18″ plus matting and frame (Framing mockup created with AI.) Last week I saw Wynton Marsalis and his band perform part of John Coltrane’s A Love Supreme at the Hollywood Bowl. The music was a reflection of Coltrane’s spiritual awakening. As it played, I found myself imagining colors and shapes. Many of those moments found their way into this piece. The large circle becomes the song, the smaller circles become its structure and musical phrases, repeating and answering one another are like instruments. Cool blues and warm oranges trade phrases, while red punctuates the rhythm like a sharp brass note. The blending of color becomes the improvisation. Mandala in Nine Parts, 2026 Watercolor on cold-pressed archival paper Each artwork: 10 × 10 in. Installed: 42 × 42 in. When I was ten or eleven, I was cleaning up after painting and carried the artwork from our bright kitchen into a darker hallway. As the light changed, I noticed the darker tones darkening, the lighter areas was catching what little light remained, and the composition seeming to shift in mood. It was mesmerizing! This nine-piece mandala has a personality of its own. In morning light, on cloudy afternoons, and beneath studio lights, the art seems to change… in bright light, it feels bold and exuberant.
